# India Number KYC

> KYC documents, compliance application process, and number rental for India

KYC compliance is required before renting Indian phone numbers. This guide covers the documents, application process, and post-approval steps.

  **India Data Region Required:** Indian phone numbers are only available to India data region accounts. If you have a US data region account, you cannot rent Indian numbers. Data region cannot be changed after account creation — you'll need to [create a new India data region account](https://www.plivo.com/request-trial/).

## KYC Documents Required

Submit two documents — one from each row below.

| Document                              | Accepted options                                                                            |
| ------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Business registration certificate** | Certificate of Incorporation (COI) from MCA **or** Udyam Registration Certificate from MSME |
| **Tax registration document**         | Business PAN **or** GST Certificate (Goods and Services Tax registration certificate)       |

### Business Registration Certificate Requirements

Your business registration certificate must meet these requirements:

**If submitting a Certificate of Incorporation (COI):**

| Requirement           | Details                                                                                              |
| --------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Issuing Authority** | Must be issued by the **Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA)**                                        |
| **CIN Number**        | Must include the **Corporate Identification Number (CIN)**                                           |
| **Company Name**      | Must match exactly with the name on your tax registration document (Business PAN or GST certificate) |

**If submitting an Udyam Registration Certificate:**

| Requirement                   | Details                                                                                              |
| ----------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Issuing Authority**         | Must be issued by the **Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME)**                     |
| **Udyam Registration Number** | Must include a valid Udyam Registration Number                                                       |
| **Enterprise Name**           | Must match exactly with the name on your tax registration document (Business PAN or GST certificate) |

  **Common rejection reasons:**

  * Submitting only one document (both a business registration certificate and a tax registration document are required)
  * COI not issued by MCA, or Udyam certificate not issued by MSME
  * Missing CIN or Udyam Registration Number
  * Business name mismatch between the registration certificate and the tax registration document

## Submit Compliance Application

1. Navigate to [Compliance Application](https://cx.plivo.com/phone-numbers?tab=compliance)
2. Click **Create Application**
3. Select **India** and click **Continue**
4. Upload your business registration certificate (COI or Udyam) and your tax registration document (Business PAN or GST Certificate)
5. Select business type (Direct Brand or Reseller)
6. Submit

For 080/022 numbers, review typically takes 15 minutes and up to 1 business day in some cases. 140-series and 160-series numbers have a separate SLA — see [140-series provisioning](/voice/concepts/140-series-provisioning) and [160-series provisioning](/voice/concepts/160-series-provisioning).

## Rent Numbers After Approval

### Direct Brands

1. Go to **Buy Phone Numbers**
2. Select India
3. Compliance application links automatically

### Resellers

1. Ensure your customer's compliance application is approved
2. During rental, select the appropriate compliance application
3. Application must be approved beforehand

## Update Compliance on Existing Numbers

Use this when a number is transferred between customers or the business entity using the number changes.

**Option 1:**

1. Go to **Active Numbers**
2. Select numbers
3. Click **Choose Action > Update Compliance**
4. Select compliance application
5. Click **Save**

**Option 2:**

1. Click on specific number
2. Select compliance from dropdown
